"I want to be all that I am capable of becoming."
-Katherine Mansfield
I was born and raised by Doug and Diane Moffat in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am very close to my family and spend a lot of my time with them.
I was home-schooled for my elementary years and started at Granite Park Junior High in 7th grade. I attended Skyline High School where I continued to do well academically and in extra curricular activities. In May 2011 I graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education and received my teaching license in Early Childhood Education in June 2011. In August 2014 I graduated from the University of Utah with my M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and I also renewed my teaching certification to a Level 2 license.

Child Family Development Center
University of Utah
When I was 18 I started working with 6-18 month old children and really enjoyed it so when I was deciding on a major I wanted to find something with young children as the focus. I started working in the lab school on the University of Utah campus and fell right in love with the the department. After I completed working for the lab school for credits the kindergarten teacher, Rachel Casper, offered me the position as her assistant for the 2009-2010 school year. It was an amazing opportunity for me to manage classroom set up everyday, review and observe the student teachers lessons and activities and to be there for an entire school year.
Guadalupe School
Public Charter
In 2010-2011 I completed my student teaching at Guadalupe School. I worked as head teacher in the 2nd grade and kindergarten classrooms. Guadalupe is a public charter, Title 1 school that is 98% Hispanic and 56% English as a Second Language. I loved working with this demographic. I was able to really develop my classroom management to be clear and direct, establish my behavioral plan, and set expectations with my students.
Middle Canyon Elementary
Tooele County School District
In August 2011 I was given a teaching position at Middle Canyon Elementary School in Tooele County School District. For the 2011-2012 school year I taught a half day kindergarten of 23 students in the morning.
I was also given the opportunity during the 2011-2012 school year to teach a performing arts rotation every afternoon for a half hour with each class. During this rotation I orchestrated a “Schoolhouse Stomp” based on the Broadway production “Stomp Out Loud”, where each class learned and created a video of rhythms using their bodies and props to depict areas in the school
Starting during the 2012-2013 school year and since then I have been the full time kindergarten teacher and have held the team leader position for the majority of that time. I have taught classes ranging from 16 to 26 students.
While I have worked at Middle Canyon I have been able to work in a Professional Learning Community as a kindergarten team, and a school-wide team, to help collect and analyze data from student assessments, and write lesson plans together to meet common goals based off the Utah Core Standards and Objectives. Working in my kindergarten team we built common assessments to meet the district rubrics for the kindergarten report card and a curriculum map for each year. I was able to implement guided reading and Words Their Way sorts in small groups to help with literacy instruction. I also attended trainings on how to utilize the Houghton Mifflin Go Math Program, and the Pearson Realize EnVision math program. As the team leader I have attended meetings throughout the year to help collaborate with the other grades and represent kindergarten for the school.
